The I Love Circus Cabaret is back and better than ever!
For Volume 2 of the I Love Circus Cabaret, we asked for artists from a wide variety of disciplines to submit, with the goal of integrating their art into a performance that “fuses” their artistic practice with a discipline from the contemporary circus world.
Exploring the collaboration between circus and other artistic practices by placing them in non-traditional settings, we encouraged applicants to step away from their studios or their typical space of creation and immerse their creative process in the world around them; whether that be at the beach, in the mountains, or on a city street. We challenged the selected artists to “fuse” their discipline with a specific area of contemporary circus to develop a new and original performance. All applicants were paired by CircusWest so participants may or may not have had prior knowledge of, or association with, circus or circus performers. Pairings might include: A drummer and a juggler; a weaver and a roue cyr artist; a spoken word poet and a trapeze artist; a sculptor and a handstand artist. Artists had two weeks to collaborate in non-traditional settings culminating in this performance in Vancouver, BC at the Orpheum Annex on September 9th 2017.
