ILLUSIVE: A Peek Into The Possibilities, Part Two
In CircusWest’s ILLUSIVE: A Circus of Possibilities, we follow characters that have their worlds turned inside out. Working together, they will put math, art, circus and the concept of reality to the test. The characters explore four worlds that come from aspects of the art of MC Escher: tessellation, fractals and spirals, polyhedral, and impossible geometry.
When last we left the inhabitants of CircusWest’s Illusive, they were working their way out of a 2D world based on MC Escher’s tessellations. This week:
WORLD TWO: fractals and spirals. Fractals are basically replications of a pattern on increasingly smaller scales. Same pattern, smaller dimensions; and so on into infinity. Mind blown yet? Just look at this explanatory gif:
In this world, we follow an Architect who finds herself lost in a fractal forest. She encounters a woman hunting for her dog, cops and bureaucrats trying to restore order, and ends up running into the Artist from the Tessellation world. Working together, they try to find a way out of the endless patterns…
ILLUSIVE runs May 10 – 13, 2018. Shows at 12:30 and 7:00pm. Tickets online: https://www.vtixonline.com/?series=CircusWest
