COVERAGE DETAILS
Commercial General Liability (CGL) Policy
CircusWest’s general liability insurance policy protects the society in the event of a lawsuit. A lawsuit may result from negligence for bodily injury to participants, spectators, and other members of the public or to damage to third party property, arising out of CircusWest-sanctioned activities. The primary general liability insurance provides coverage up to $5 M per occurrence. The policy will pay the legally obligated settlement or judgment against the insured for compensatory damages in the event of a lawsuit. This coverage also includes legal liability for injury to participants. This policy covers all members, including executives, managers, coaches, trainers, officials, employees, and volunteers who were acting within the scope of their duties on behalf of the organization.
Directors and Officers (D&O) Policy
This insurance provides the Insured with coverage for claims made because of the Insured Party’s wrongful acts including any negligent acts, errors or omissions committed in their insured capacity as a Director, Officer, or trustee, as well as any other matter claimed against them solely by reason of their serving in such insured capacity. This coverage includes Employment Practices Liability Coverage.
Limits for CircusWest’s D&O policy is $2 M, which does not extend to members.
Sport Accident Policy
All individuals registered with CircusWest receive coverage for accidents occurring during sanctioned classes, practice, and performances. This includes participants, coaches, staff & volunteers. Accident insurance only provides coverage in situations where an injury takes place because of an accident during a sanctioned CircusWest activity.
CircusWest’s Sport Accident Policy is excess coverage only and does not provide primary medical insurance. It applies over and above coverage provided by government (BC Medical Services Plan – MSP) whether the Insured is enrolled in such a plan or not.
Members have a responsibility to report incidents as soon as they happen. These reports will be essential in the event of an insurance claim. CircusWest’s incident reporting and accident claim processes is to notify your instructor/coach immediately who will fill out an accident form and report to the safety officer.
INSURANCE COVERAGE FAQ’s
Why is there an Insurance Fee at CircusWest?
As a member-based Organization in this sector, CircusWest’s insurance premiums are significant each year. The organization is required to have its own insurance not only as part of our lease agreement but also to operate in BC. Fees collected are a nominal percentage of the total insurance costs subsidized by the society for each member annually. This flow-through cost is to try and keep class enrollment as economically priced as possible.
Who is CircusWest’s Insurance Broker?
CircusWest’s insurance broker is Johnston Meier
How long should incident reports be kept on file?
Incident reports for individuals who are under the age of 19 should be kept until the individual is 21. Incident reports for individuals who are 19 or older must be kept for 7 years.
Will I be covered for circus activities outside of CircusWest?
No, the insurance policy does not extend to activities outside of CircusWest sanctioned training and performance activities. Any CircusWest activities outside our home facility also require a separate certificate of insurance at least 14 days prior to the activity. CircusWest Insurance is not affiliated or extended to any other organization in BC or Canada
Does the CircusWest Insurance Policy include Travel Medical Insurance?
No, CircusWest’s insurance policy does not include travel medical insurance (travel medical insurance pays for emergency medical expenses during a trip). However, individuals that are current members of CircusWest (in good standing) are covered under CircusWest’s accident policy during the activity only, provided the event they are attending has been sanctioned by CircusWest for events located in Canada.
Who do I contact if I have an Insurance question?
